(Joint work with Katsuhiko Sano (Hokkaido University).)
Isaacs & Rawlins (2008) analyze conditional statements and conditional questions like (1) by combining Kaufmann’s (2000) stack-model of conditionals and Groenendijk’s (1999) logic of interrogation.
(1) a. If it is raining, the party will be cancelled.
b. If it is raining, will the party be cancelled?
We show that I&R’s original implementation does not derive the result that they claim to. We amend the system by employing inquisitive semantics (Ciardelli, Groenendijk & Roelofsen, 2015) and redefining some notions so that it gives us the correct interpretation of conditional statements/questions.
